The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and is thought to be the predominant enzyme responsible for epoxidation of endogenous arachidonic acid in cardiac tissue. Function: This enzyme metabolizes arachidonic acid predominantly via a NADPH-dependent olefin epoxidation mainly to 14,15-, 11,12-, and 8,9-epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EET). It also acts as an omega-1-hydroxylase by metabolizing arachidonic acid to 19-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (19-OH-AA).
