Expressed at high levels in brain and also present in testis and pancreas, MCF2L2 is thought to function as a GEF, catalyzing the activation of target GTPases. Variations in the gene encoding MCF2L2 may be associated with an increased susceptibility to type 2 diabetes. Multiple isoforms of MCF2L2 exist due to alternative splicing events. Function: Probably functions as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor. Tissue Specificity: Significantly expressed in brain and modestly in pancreas, brain and testis. DISEASE: Genetic MCF2变换序列样蛋白2抗体variation in MCF2L2 may be associated with susceptibility to noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) [MIM:125853]; also known as diabetes mellitus type 2.
